“I cannot begin.” – Bartleby the Scrivener
Now I understand why he wrote that line. First post = such pressure! I thought a mission statement might be a good idea, though traditionally I suck at writing mission statements. Probably I should not say that in my very first post, but it’s true.
Mission statements are clear and concise, but my goals for this blog are fluid and a tad vague at the moment. However, I’m okay with that. Hopefully you are too.
I want this blog to be a place to come for inspiration, motivation, humor, and, dare I say it…even a smidge of happiness. I read Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Project last year and found it motivational, though I don’t plan to pick 12 happiness targets and devote a month to each, I definitely spend plenty of time thinking about happiness. So you can expect to see a lot about that, and all the other topics that take up space in my brain these days.
Is happiness overrated? Some might say. I’m a psychologist, and one of my current endeavors is to learn more about a newer form of therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy – expect to see more about that in future posts. ACT (pronounced “act”, if you care) has a different view about happiness than you might expect from a psychotherapy, but more about that later.
We don’t want to get TOO serious in our first post. So….
